Need Emergency Heating Repairs? Learn How to Qualify for CIP Assistance

Winter in Colorado can be brutal, and if your heating system is broken, you don’t have to face the cold alone. Mountain Resource Center (MRC), in partnership with Energy Outreach Colorado’s Crisis Intervention Program (CIP), is here to help income-qualified households get free emergency heating system repairs and replacements

If you’re still struggling with financial challenges from COVID-19 or any other reason, this program can provide much-needed relief to ensure you and your family stay warm and safe this winter.

Who Qualifies for CIP Assistance?

To be eligible for free emergency heating repairs or replacements through the CIP program, you must:

Be a Colorado resident
Have a non-working heating system that needs urgent repair or replacement
Be income-qualified, which means you must first be approved for LEAP (Low-Income Energy Assistance Program)

If you’re already approved for LEAP, you are automatically eligible for CIP!

How to Apply for LEAP & CIP

To apply for LEAP, you will need:
📄 Proof of income for all household members for the last month
🏡 Your most recent heating bill or rent receipt (if utilities are included in rent)
📜 Proof of legal residency (if born outside the U.S.)
✍️ Completed LEAP application with all questions answered and a signature

Once your LEAP application is approved, you can request assistance through CIP if your heating system is broken. Emergency cases are prioritized, and help is available within 24 hours for urgent heating repairs.

🚨 Important: CIP does not cover routine heating system maintenance—only emergency repairs or replacements.
